CEDAR CITY, Utah (May 30, 2026) - 59 teams competed in the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games High School Basketball Tournament from May 28-30 for an opportunity to take home a gold medal at the end of the weekend.
After winning gold last year, American Heritage held onto their title this year in the 3A+ Varsity Boys Championship with a 59-46 win. Cedar powered their way to a 3A+ Varsity Girls Championship by upsetting Beaver and Richfield in outstanding defensive showings en route to a de facto gold after their final opponent was disqualified.
3A+ Boys Gold Championship: American Heritage Patriots retain gold title with 59-46 win over Canyon View Falcons
American Heritage opened the game on a hot streak that included two and-one baskets from Josue Kajinga and a pair of triples from Kade Andersen, barreling away to a double-digit lead in the first eight minutes of play.
Canyon View's Jeter Sanders kept his team alive with excellent perimeter shooting and some impressive drives to the paint, cutting the American Heritage lead to five. However, the Patriots scored on a breakaway and a last second tip-in from Kajinga to make it 29-19 before halftime.
American Heritage's Kajinga and Dallin Castle each cashed in on a pair of baskets to bump their team to a 40-22 advantage. The Falcons continued to battle but struggled to keep up with a fast-paced Patriots offense.
American Heritage coasted to a 59-46 win, securing the title of back-to-back gold medal champions in the 3A+ Varsity Boys Gold Division.
