Amy Christiansen Palmer

Palmer placed eighth in the hammer throw in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. She also won the bronze medal at the 1998 Goodwill Games.

 

Amy was born in Tooele, Utah, and attended Grantsville High, where she excelled the discus, javelin and shot put. At Brigham Young University, Palmer broke several school records before settling into the relatively new sport of women’s hammer throw. Palmer once held the American record in the hammer, and had a personal best of 68.28 meters, set in 2000.

 

Palmer has retired from competition and lives with her husband in Grantsville where she works as a teacher’s aide.
